Having a dog is having another member of your family. It's the one time however, when you get to choose your family! It is well worth the time involved to find the right puppy or dog.
First, be honest with yourself about your own lifestyle. What is working for you now? Do you like hiking, biking, casual walks or are you too busy commuting and taking care of existing responsibilities to do much more than grab a bite and collapse? Will you be able to puppy-proof your living arrangement?
Maybe the Vizsla is the right dog for you, but you're just not sure about going through that "baby" stage. It's a lot of time and attention to raise a baby, and the 4-legged kind just get into trouble faster! Accidents can happen including wetting on the beautiful area rug in the entryway (hey, it smells right!) or finding out what fun it is to pull the stuffing out of the sofa cushions.
And puppies go through teething. The only sure way to protect your dining room chair legs is to never allow your little prince/princess alone with them. Are you ready for all that? If not, then perhaps adopting a grown dog might be a better option.
